The tiny 4.4 square mile Cave City in Barren County, Kentucky is home to around 2,240 residents. It was acquired by Knob City Land Company back in 1853 and was originally planned as a resort town because of its close proximity to Mammoth Cave.  At present, Cave City’s economy mainly relies on tourism but its retail industry, which also focuses on antiques and consignment stores, is also booming. A number of motels and restaurants could be found around the area that is especially catered to tourists who are visiting Mammoth Cave National Park. The city is also home to the Cave City Convention Center, one of south central Kentucky’s first convention centers, which hosts up to 40,000 participants each year.
