Located within the New York metropolitan area is the 44.3 square mile city of Danbury. The area was originally called Pahquioque after the Native American tribe that lived there. It was also called Paquiack, which meant ‘open plain’ or ‘cleared land’ then later became Swampfield. In 1687, the court decreed its current name, Danbury.
