Falls of Makahiku
The Makahiku Falls is a 200-foot horsetail waterfall located within the Haleakala National Park in the island of Maui in Hawaii. The majestic waterfall can be accessed via the Pipiwai Trail in Ohe’o Gulch, also known as the Seven Sacred Pools.
Shortly after the lookout that left the Pipiwai Trail is a trail that leads right to the top of the Makahiku Falls, which features a protected pool. This ‘infinity pool’, which looks like it goes on forever into the sky, is among the best way to relax during an afternoon hike. In addition, tourists would also go upstream to see a cave as well as the other waterfalls along the Ohe’o Gulch stream.
When checking the Makahiku Falls, it is important to take careful note of the weather. During heavy rains, the waterfall can be heavily flooded and flash floods can become a common occurrence at the protected pool on top of the falls.
