Maui Ocean Center
This 3-acre aquarium and oceanography center is located in Maalaea in the island of Maui. It is the largest public aquarium in the island and is very active in projects such as growing artificial coral reefs that are later on introduced to the wild.
The Maui Ocean Center, with its 2.8 million liter tank, features aquatic animals such as reef fish, octopus, moray eels, green sea turtles, sharks, stingrays, sea jellies and many more. All of the animals at the center are found in Hawaii; about 25% of these creatures are endemic so they cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. The center, however, does not exhibit cetaceans, or dolphins and whales, in compliance with the law but they do have displays regarding these creatures in the Marine Mammal Discovery Center.
The animals in the facility eat according to their natural behavior and needs so there are no feeding schedules or shows being offered.
